1. Resistance from group members may arise at any stage of the group counseling process. As a group member, what might cause you to resist participating in the life of a group? How might a leader help you overcome this resistance?
2. Write a brief dialogue from a fictitious group illustrating how a leader might help you overcome your resistance?
3. Cultural factors may account for lack of participation by a group member. How might you work with such a member? What other reasons can you think of for lack of participation by group members?
4. Group leaders are sometimes challenged by members. How would you respond to an attack on your leadership?
5. After reading pp. 192 - 205, list the problem behavior that would cause you the most difficulty as a group leader. Why would this behavior be the most challenging? How would you attempt to respond to the behavior?

7. How does a group member's absence during the initial stage of a group influence the progress of a group to the transition state? If a group member has missed a session or two during the initial stage of a group, how would you handle the return of the member?
